A Themed Wedding: Party Decor Possibilities

By: Jenni Rowenby

As a bride, it is your right to have a memorable wedding day. Friends and family should share in your joy, so much that they remember your special day for many years to come. Juggling different combinations of flowers, colors and decorations, offers you a fair amount of possibilities. But when you start with wedding party decor, a whole new world opens up, and changes the picture completely.
At the church, or other venue for the ceremony, there will be way too much excitement amongst the guests to really appreciate unusual decorations. Their attention will be focused on you, your dress, and the actual ceremony. Once the ceremony is over, and your guests arrive at the reception hall, they can relax, waiting for the bridal couple. If you think back to weddings you have attended, you will find that most of your memories are from the reception, not the ceremony.
Using wedding party decor, you will be able to establish a theme, and break away from what is "the usual wedding reception". Creating a theme costs more, so be prepared to spend a bit, unless you are able to borrow some of it.
First, decide on a theme. It is usually easier to narrow down your focus, and be more specific. For instance, instead of trying to create a "garden theme", try and create a "spring flower garden theme". The more specific your selection, the easier it will be to bring everything together.
Secondly, make sure the theme for your wedding party decor is compatible with the venue you want to use. A lack of space, or an awkward layout, could destroy all the impact your theme should have. Likewise, have a look at the lighting system of the venue. Will you be able to dim the lights? If not, you will have to come up with alternative lighting, whether it be a multitude of candles, or lanterns.
As a starting point, create a striking center piece. It could be some old family pictures set into an elaborate frame, or a painting, or even (if you dare spend that much) the string quartet you booked for the event. It could be a huge bouquet, or an unusual wedding cake. Whatever you do, it has to start somewhere. Somewhere in plain sight of guests entering, where their eyes will focus immediately, and wander around to absorb the rest from there.
The time, effort and money spent to create a theme will be well worth it. Your choice to use wedding party decor allows you to rise above the norm, and create something truly memorable. The fact that there is a flowing connection makes for a striking effect, and will give your guests something to talk about.
